When I first started working at Cloud Net, I must admit I had never

heard of VoIP, I have never been very technical and thought it would take me a long time to understand what it was all about. Surprisingly I managed to understand how it works pretty easily and you really don’t have to be a technical boffin to understand it.
What I have learnt is when VoIP first came out in 1998 it was not very reliable and lots of people experienced problems such as intermittent calls. Now over 10 years on it is still going strong and technology has improved better than ever. What’s more Cloud Net provide QoS broadband which basically means this guarantees the quality of service as the voice is always prioritised over the data and the data is not affected in any way either. When moving to VoIP you do need to consider using a business premium broadband with good speeds to guarantee the call quality.
Making the switch for your business telephone system from traditional analogue to VoIP can have many advantages for all companies.
- Firstly the cost, as with VoIP you only need one physical line going into the building which you’re broadband will sit on.
- The other lines you already have can be ceased. The handsets are then plugged into the router or network cable and you are ready to go.
- Another advantage is VoIP is a simply plug and play phone system so you are able to take your handset anywhere in the world and plug it into a fixed broadband connection and no one is none the wiser.
- You can also have any UK geographic number which is great for advertising in particular locations.
To be honest the features are endless and as long as you have a good internet connection you should not experience any problems.
What people are worried about is if your broadband goes down your handsets go down too and yes this is true, however this is also the same with a typical analogue line, unfortunately nothing is perfect. However with VoIP you can merely transfer the calls to your mobile or another UK landline so you don’t miss any important calls. VoIP symbolises the latest in telephone communications technology and if you want to keep up with the latest technology and reduce costs on your business phone system then I truly believe VoIP is for you.
