Traditional PBX

Here we take a look at the Birchills Telecom cloud based PBX and compare it to a more traditional PBX used in small offices phone systems.

PBX stands for private branch exchange.  It is a telephone system within an enterprise that switches calls between enterprise users on local lines while allowing all users to share a certain number of external phone lines. A PBX is the heart of the phone system.  When a person dials in the first place the call reaches is the PBX.  This then controls how the call is handled.  Usually it will send the call out to one or several of the extensions that are connected to it.  However the PBX can do a variety of other things depending on how it's configured and what features it has. A traditional PBX is usually a box a that will be set up in an office or small business that the phones can then be plugged in to.  Birchills Telecom's cloud PBX is hosted on our webservers so no box is needed.  It can be accessed through the internet from almost any device.

It is good to know that some people think you should pay for a PBX. There are clearly some good people in the world. However, you really don't need to spend all that time and effort choosing what PBX you want, finding somewhere to house it and paying someone to maintain it.
